- ADDING SLICED FRUIT OR VEGGIES IN WATER
- Fresh fruit and veggies in your water make it tastier and healthier. But beware – if you do not wash your fruit and citruses first, you could be adding foodborne bacteria like salmonella and E.coli into your drink. That’s because slicing it can move the bacteria into the flesh if not cleaned first. Be sure to scrub and wash veggies and fruits under running water, do not use the same cutting board as raw meats and check your fruits and veggies for freshness.
- CAFFEINE AND ALCOHOL CAN CONTRIBUTE TO DEHYDRATION
- Alcohol and caffeine are diuretics which means they make you pee. If your water is not replenished, this can cause dehydration, elevated blood pressure as well as passing out. To ensure you keep the proper balance, make sure you drink these one to one with a glass of water.
- DON’T DRINK WHILE EATING
- Although there is controversy on the disruption of digestion while drinking, there is enough functional evidence to clear away from this practice. Our food depends on the digestive acids to breakdown our foods to a cellular level. Drinks while eating can alter the process of this function – either by diluting the acids or reducing the production of particular acids required to break down our foods. Best bet, if there are any digestive issues to avoid drinking 30 minutes from eating.

- I am a HUGE fan of taking supplements. Let’s face it – there is overwhelming evidence that our foods have been modified for greater production and taste by chemical additives and pesticides. Our lives are faster paced, and we are not- as a culture – eating as properly as we should. Over time, this takes a profound toll to our immune system. Taking supplements can increase our nutrient intake, reduce the strain on our liver and kidneys and promote overall organ function. The trick is to stick to very high quality supplements as not to add to existing strains on our bodies organs and immune system. Do your homework, consult a professional, or you could be doing more harm than good.
